Debbie Lynn Cornelius, 72, of Fairfield, IA passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Jefferson County Health Care Center.

Debbie Lynn Cornelius was born September 1, 1953, in Fairfield to Wayne and Maxine Heston. On December 26th, 1975, Debbie was finally able to wear Michael Cornelius down, and they were married. While Mike gained a wife; his father Johnny gained another daughter. A bond she treasured for the rest of her life. During their 34 years together, they had 2 children; John and Sara. Many people knew Deb from her many years working at Pamida, Econo-Foods and eventually Hy-Vee where she finally retired after over 30 years working in retail. Deb was a loving mother but discovered a new level of caring when it came to her grandchildren. Aspen, Aysen, Aylen and Ayren all held a special place in her heart.
She enjoyed the outdoors and was never one to miss out on a fishing trip or mushroom season. She will be missed, not only by her family, but all the customers she has served over the years. Debbie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her mother and father-in-law Johnny and Florence Cornelius. She is survived by her children, John Cornelius and Sara (Derick) Clark; four grandchildren; two sisters; Dawn Morrow and Kim Winters: a brother, Todd Heston, as well as many extended family and friends.
