The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation released more details concerning an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Ottumwa on Wednesday.

According to a press release, the US Marshal Service (USMS) attempted to serve an arrest warrant to 31-year-old Michael Zurek on the 500 block of North Green Street at around 12:30 PM. During the interaction, a US Marshal fired his weapon and hit Zurek, who died at the scene.

Authorities say the USMS is cooperating with the investigation and the Marshal that fired his weapon has been placed on administrative leave.
