A Chillicothe man is facing multiple charges after an alleged domestic assault incident in Oskaloosa.
On May 8 at approximately 8:57 a.m., the Oskaloosa Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Pella Avenue in Oskaloosa for a reported domestic assault.
According to a criminal complaint, 25-year-old John Heasley of Chillicothe had left the residence before officers arrived.
Court documents state that Heasley had brought items to the residence for the children when an argument began between him and the victim. The victim told officers that after she asked Heasley to take some trash to the dumpster, he became upset and allegedly shoved her. The victim reported that Heasley shoved her two additional times, causing her to fall into a wall and other items inside the residence.
The complaint further states that Heasley allegedly grabbed the victim’s cellphone and threw it outside. However, witnesses told officers that Heasley placed the phone in his vehicle rather than breaking it. According to court records, the victim had to leave the residence and seek help from a neighbor because she no longer had access to her phone to call 911.
Law enforcement officials reported that the victim’s phone was tracked through Life360 and showed a location near Highway 163 and 275th Street. Heasley was later located and stopped by a Wapello County deputy near the Highway 63 and Chillicothe Road area.
Heasley was taken into custody and transported to the Mahaska County Jail. He was later released after posting a $1,000 surety bond.
A no-contact order was issued on June 9. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 19.
Heasley is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury or Mental Illness, First Offense, a serious misdemeanor; Obstruction of Emergency Communications, a simple misdemeanor; and Fourth-Degree Theft, a serious misdemeanor.
