A southeast Iowa man is accused of placing a camera in a private area of a local salon.
Kevin Zaputil, 49, of Albia was charged with stalking – using a technological device, a Class C felony, and three counts of invasion of privacy, an aggravated misdemeanor.
According to a press release, an officer from the Albia Police Department responded to a call on June 19th after a hidden camera, disguised as an electrical outlet, was found inside Just Teasin’ Hair Salon. Court records say the motion-activated camera was positioned to view the tanning bed area and was used to record women undressing and using the tanning bed.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation assisted in the investigation, and officials determined that Zaputil placed the camera inside the salon sometime between 2023 and 2026. Zaputil was the business’s contractor who had access to the building. Investigators say no additional cameras were found.
A warrant for Zaputil’s arrest was issued on June 24th, and he was taken into custody the following day.
Zaputil was transported to the Monroe County Jail and was later freed after posting bond.
Zaputil’s initial court appearance is scheduled for June 30th. He’s been ordered not to have any contact with the three female victims in this case.
