Sheriff’s Office Responds to Domestic Assault; Ottumwa Man Arrested

Authorities say the incident involved allegations of force during an altercation, prompting law enforcement response and subsequent charges.

On April 6 at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 1000 block of 138th Street in response to a reported domestic abuse assault.

According to the criminal complaint, Charles Jorgensen, 50, of Ottumwa, allegedly assaulted the victim by pushing her against a door and forcibly placing his hand on her neck.

Court documents state that Jorgensen and the victim have been in a relationship for approximately five years and share a minor child.

A warrant for Jorgensen’s arrest was served on May 1. He is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on a $500 cash/surety bond.

A pretrial conference is scheduled for May 21.

Jorgensen is charged with domestic abuse assault, first offense, a simple misdemeanor.
