Larry Dean Cooper, 81 years, of Ottumwa Iowa, went home to be with our Lord at 2:00 p.m., Thursday May 21, 2026, with his family present at Good Samaritan Society Long-Term Care Facility.

Larry and his identical twin brother Gary Cooper were born on July 24, 1944, to Mary Margaret and Elster Cooper at Ottumwa Ia., lived in Hiteman Ia., and later moved to Albia Ia, where Larry finished his last two years at Albia High School. After graduating, joined the U.S. Air Force in 1964 at age 19. Larry served in various Military Bases in the States, to include Alaska, as well as other countries such as Korea, and Turkey where Son Shane Cooper was born. Larry was previously married and had a daughter Lorrie Kay.

Larry and Gen married July 9, 1977, in Lompoc Ca. and was married for 49 years this July, Larry and Gen lived in Lompoc Ca. for 29 years and moved to Ottumwa Ia. to live out their retirement for nearly 20 years to reunite with family.

Larry loved to ride motorcycles, play golf, sailing, kayaking, football, playing card games, home cooked meals, and driving his 2007 black convertible Pontiac Solstice in his later years.

Larry is survived by his wife Gen Cooper, daughter Lorrie Kay Cooper, son Shane (Irene) Cooper, twin brother Gary Cooper, sister Nikki (Paul) Ammons, sister Kim Bacon, to include numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

Those who preceded are father Elster Cooper, mother Mary Margaret, brother Tim Cooper, and sister-in-law Lorriane Cooper.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Larry’s family present to greet family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Mark Hornback officiating. Burial will military honors provided by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia, and Melrose will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia.

The Cooper Family expresses sincere appreciation and heartfelt gratitude for all the love and prayers during this difficult time.
