Joyce was born on September 15, 1947, in Burlington, Iowa, to Willis Burl and Helen Maxine Lee Lamb. She spent her younger years in Mount Pleasant, where she graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1965 and was a member of the FCOC Church. After graduation, she began her working life at the Mount Pleasant Mental Institution, where she dedicated several years of service. On December 20, 1980, Joyce married William W. McIntosh at the Keosauqua Congregational Church. Together they built their life in Keosauqua, where Joyce continued her caring work at Good Samaritan and later at Center Village. She also gave her time to others by helping at the senior meal site and Senior Solutions in Keosauqua. Joyce found happiness in life’s simple pleasures and in the people and places that brought her joy. She enjoyed watching movies, especially Hallmark favorites, and never passed up the chance to watch Bridgerton. She loved spending time with her cats, listening to the music of Garth Brooks and Elvis, traveling whenever she had the opportunity, and playing cards at the senior center. Her family also fondly remembered the trip to St. Louis that earned her the title of certified beer master at Anheuser-Busch, though it was an honor she rarely had occasion to use.
More than anything, Joyce treasured the time she shared with her family, who were always at the center of her life. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Jarrod McIntosh (Ann) of Keosauqua and Ken McIntosh (Tisha) of Hampton, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Brittany Ryan (Spencer Droz), Jacob McIntosh (Samantha), Dylan McIntosh (Lindsey), Naven Evans, and Nalea Shaw (Bradly); and her great-grandchildren, Sofia, Charlotte, Eleanor, Athena, Cordelia, and Emersyn. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and her two sisters, Darla Meyer and Patricia Cole.
