The City of Ottumwa has announced holiday closures and schedule adjustments in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, 2026. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead for changes in city services throughout the holiday weekend.
City Hall and most city offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, including the Ottumwa Public Library and Ottumwa Water and Hydro offices.
The Ottumwa/Wapello Landfill and Recycling Center will also be closed Monday for the holiday. Both facilities will operate regular Saturday hours from 7 a.m. to noon on May 23.
Residential trash collection normally scheduled for Monday will be delayed one day and collected on Tuesday, May 26.
Yard waste and bulky item collection schedules will also be adjusted for the holiday week. South side pickup, which is normally held on Tuesdays, will move to Thursday, May 28. Both north and south side yard waste and bulky item pickups will take place that Thursday only. Residents needing bulky item pickup must contact Bridge City Sanitation before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27 to schedule collection.
The office serving Ottumwa Cemetery, Calvary Cemetery, and Jewish Cemetery at 1302 N. Court Street will remain closed through the weekend and Memorial Day. A visitor assistance tent will be available Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Residents looking to enjoy the holiday weekend can visit The Beach Ottumwa, which plans to open Saturday through Monday from noon to 7 p.m., weather permitting. Officials note that park hours may change depending on weather conditions, and the outdoor water park will not open if forecasted temperatures remain below 70 degrees.
