The Van Buren County and Fairfield girls track and field teams competed Tuesday, April 14th at the Timm Lamb Pen City Relays at Fort Madison, with Van Buren County claiming the Class B team title in a tight battle and Fairfield finishing seventh in the Class A division.
Team Standings
In the Class A division, Mount Pleasant won with 139 points, followed by Oskaloosa with 117, Washington with 107.50, Fort Madison with 102, Keokuk with 76, Burlington with 62, Fairfield with 41, West Burlington-Notre Dame with 39.50, and Muscatine with 31.
In the Class B division, Van Buren County won with 155 points, edging Mediapolis with 147 and Davis County B with 145. Central Lee was fourth with 88, Danville fifth with 84, New London sixth with 42, and Winfield-Mt. Union seventh with 26.
Van Buren County Results
Aida Troutman won the Class B 100-meter dash in 13.73 and the long jump with a leap of 15-01. Kayley Snowgren won the 800-meter run in 2:39.41. Briley Losey won the shot put with a throw of 31-10.
Emma Coffin placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 28.89, Willow Worley 15th in 32.93, and Grace Richards 16th in 33.34. Aubrey Loeffler placed third in the 400-meter dash in 1:09.10, Rylee Philips fourth in 1:11.34, and Gabby Titus sixth in 1:13.23. Richards placed 12th in the 100-meter dash in 15.39.
Rory Philips placed second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:18.30 and Adalyn Snowgren third in 1:19.10 behind winner Allison Gillip of New London at 1:14.25. Armoney Adams placed 10th in the 100-meter hurdles in 22.46 and Willow Worley 11th in 22.48 behind winner Layne Price of Mediapolis at 17.33. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Ali Pedretti, Aubrey Loeffler, Willow Worley, and Armoney Adams placed fourth in 1:21.42 behind Davis County B’s winning time of 1:16.98.
Gabby Titus placed seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:59.68. Rylee Philips placed second in the 1,500-meter run in 5:44.29 behind winner Bryn Wright of Mediapolis at 5:16.70. Rory Philips placed second in the 3,000-meter run in 12:53.84 — just 64 hundredths of a second behind winner Gabi McGregor of Davis County at 12:53.20.
The 4×100 relay team of Aida Troutman, Ava Loeffler, Daphny Wells, and Emma Coffin placed second in 53.01 behind Danville’s winning 52.02. The 4×200 team of Adalyn Snowgren, Rory Philips, Ali Pedretti, and Daphny Wells placed fourth in 2:00.79 behind winner Davis County B at 1:53.76. The 4×400 team of Kayley Snowgren, Aubrey Loeffler, Rory Philips, and Ali Pedretti placed third in 4:30.72 behind Davis County B’s winning 4:27.14. The 4×800 squad of Rylee Philips, Gabby Titus, Adalyn Snowgren, and Jacqueline Singer placed second in 11:09.13 behind Mediapolis at 11:05.72. The sprint medley team of Aida Troutman, Emma Coffin, Daphny Wells, and Ava Loeffler placed second in 1:59.81 behind Danville at 1:56.46. The distance medley group of Emma Coffin, Daphny Wells, Ava Loeffler, and Kayley Snowgren placed second in 4:38.10 behind Mediapolis at 4:32.70.
Ali Pedretti placed second in the long jump at 14-10.50. Aubrey Loeffler placed fifth in the high jump clearing 4-06 behind winner Quin Smith of Winfield-Mt. Union at 5-05. Losey placed fourth in the discus at 92-04, Lizzie Camp ninth at 72-02, and Sophia Scharf 12th at 66-10 behind winner Payton Harris of Mediapolis at 115-09. Elli Daugherty placed ninth in the shot put at 26-11 and Willow Worley 13th at 23-09.
Head coach Lucinda DeHart was proud of how her team competed against a strong field. “We were really proud of how our girls competed tonight in Fort Madison against some tough competition,” DeHart said. “With 16 teams and two classes, it was a great meet, and we were excited to come away with the Class B win in a very close battle.”
DeHart highlighted the team’s willingness to step outside their comfort zones. “Our girls really stepped up and competed well through all events,” she said. “We were especially proud of those who were willing to try new events and do what was needed for the team. That shows what kind of athletes we have. They are coachable, hardworking, and team players.”
She credited the team’s collective effort as the key to the victory. “Even though track is very individual at times, it really took a full team effort tonight,” DeHart said. “We had several PRs that both the girls and the coaches were excited about, and it was great to see everyone buy in and maximize their roles. I think that’s what made the difference for us.”
Fairfield Results
Allie Hammes placed 12th in the 100-meter dash in 14.17, Zehra Erdem 21st in 16.90, and Laney Bowers 23rd in 17.46 behind winner Mylee Stiefel of Burlington at 12.40. In the 200-meter dash, Hammes placed seventh in 29.98, Lauren Martin 13th in 30.99, and Bowers 23rd in 40.09 behind winner Delaney Anderson of Mount Pleasant at 27.31. Sam Lyons placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:06.54 and Kate Brecount ninth in 1:10.08 behind winner Tierney Carter of Oskaloosa at 59.48.
Alex Jo Steward placed eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:49.87 and Fatima Baez 11th in 3:18.63 behind winner Iris Dahl of Washington at 2:30.05. Caroline Van Pelt placed sixth in the 1,500-meter run in 6:09.34, Belzer ninth in 6:29.95, and Brecount 13th in 7:06.95 behind winner Avery Rump of Fort Madison at 5:01.94. Van Pelt placed fourth in the 3,000-meter run in 12:56.04, Steward sixth in 13:16.78, and Bailey Belzer eighth in 14:40.22 behind Rump’s winning time of 10:44.02.
The 4×100 squad of Maddy Martin, Kensley Fligg, Iris Lane, and Sam Lyons placed sixth in 54.02, with a second team of Olivia Manning, Aislinn Wise, Ryelan Schnoebelen, and Aubrey Ryan placing 12th in 1:01.00 behind winner Washington at 51.11. The 4×200 team of Iris Lane, Lauren Martin, Maddy Martin, and Kensley Fligg placed fourth in 1:56.17, with a second team of Olivia Manning, Aislinn Wise, Ryelan Schnoebelen, and Aubrey Ryan placing 11th in 2:14.69 behind winner Washington at 1:47.19. The sprint medley group of Iris Lane, Lauren Martin, Maddy Martin, and Kensley Fligg placed seventh in 2:06.65, with a second team of Olivia Manning, Aislinn Wise, Ryelan Schnoebelen, and Aubrey Ryan placing 11th in 2:21.99 behind winner Oskaloosa at 1:51.72.
Kate Brecount placed eighth in the high jump clearing 4-06 behind winner Lilian Mennen of Burlington at 5-01. Allie Hammes placed seventh in the long jump at 15-01.50 behind winner Izzy Sloat of Mount Pleasant at 16-10.50. Elyse Setterstrom placed sixth in the shot put at 31-11 and Nora McReynolds ninth at 28-06 behind winner Kylee Hill of Burlington at 49-03. Setterstrom placed third in the discus at 105-02 and McReynolds 19th at 56-01 behind Hill’s winning throw of 136-08.
Fairfield head coach Jerrod Belzer thought the night went well for the Trojans with some standout runners. “It was a really good night for us,” Belzer said. “PR’s in the long jump and high jump from freshmen Allie Hammes and Kate Brecount. Sam Lyons and Brecount had great runs in the open 400 and Allie looked strong for us in the 100. She didn’t have any open races, but Iris Lane probably had the best night overall for us in our sprint relays. She’s running really well right now and I think she’s going to make some noise in the second half of the season.”
