Stephen Fredrick Lanz, 72, formerly of Hedrick, died at 5:18 a.m. April 11, 2026 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born June 5, 1953 in Oskaloosa to Earl and Lois Barrows Lanz.
A 1972 graduate of Hedrick High School, Stephen had served in the U.S. Army as a photographer and later served in the U.S. Navy.
He enjoyed working in his yard and loved spending time with family and friends. He was an entertaining character and loved by all who knew him.
Surviving is a sister, Deb Emery of Hedrick.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sandra Moore Wacha; a brother, David Lanz; a brother-in-law, Brent Emery.
His body has been cremated. No services are planned at this time.
