Pekin Boys Win Team Title, Girls Finish Second at Horton Co-Ed Relays on Senior Night; Keota Also Competes

The Pekin boys and girls track and field teams, along with Keota, competed Thursday, April 16th at the Horton Co-Ed Relays at Pekin in what was also Senior Night for the Pekin program. The Pekin boys claimed the team title while the girls fell just short in a close race for first place.

Team Standings

In the boys division, Pekin won with 120 points, followed by Centerville with 116, North Mahaska with 78, Davis County with 75, Keota with 38, Cardinal with 31, Twin Cedars with 18, BGM with 8, and Moulton-Udell with 4. In boys JV, Pekin won with 84 points, followed by Davis County with 52, Cardinal with 29, North Mahaska with 27, Keota with 20, Centerville with 17, and Twin Cedars with 15.

In the girls division, North Mahaska won with 130.5 points, just ahead of Pekin with 128, followed by Centerville with 105, Davis County with 49.5, Cardinal with 30, and Keota with 17. In girls JV, Pekin won with 72 points, followed by North Mahaska with 54, Davis County with 52, Centerville with 38, Keota and Cardinal tied with 11, and Twin Cedars with 1.

Pekin Girls Results

Chloe Glosser won the 1,500-meter run in 4:41.02 — a new school record and a time that qualifies for the Drake Relays. Anna Hadley won the shot put with a throw of 42-02 and the discus with a throw of 136-00, also qualifying for the Drake Relays. Paislee Coleman tied for first in the high jump with Jayden Hiner of North Mahaska, both clearing 4-10. Pekin won the 4×800 relay with Ashlynn Adrian, Callie Deutschle, Emerson Porter, and Zoey Atkinson in 12:08.84. Pekin won the distance medley with Addison Smith, Brin Lauderman, Maddy Petrehn, and Chloe Glosser in 4:35.05. Pekin won the 4×100 shuttle hurdle relay in 1:12.25.

Addison Smith placed ninth in the 100-meter dash in 14.04 and Kendra Schultz 12th in 14.85 behind winner Kieren Perez of North Mahaska at 13.25. Ashlynn Adrian placed eighth in the 200-meter dash in 1:14.47 and Zoey Atkinson 11th in 1:19.82 behind winner Journey Al-Khanfar of Davis County at 1:03.02.

Paislee Coleman won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.61 with Reece Brisby placing sixth in 18.33 behind her. In the 400-meter hurdles, Carlie Gambell placed third in 1:17.80 and Abby Guise fourth in 1:19.58 behind winner Nataliya Linder of North Mahaska at 1:09.95.

Callie Deutschle placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:57.32 behind winner Taylor McVeigh of Centerville at 2:40.59. Harper Guise placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 6:27.68. In the 3,000-meter run, Harper Guise placed second in 12:42.15 and Haven Hensley third in 13:34.29 behind winner Emmerson Jedlicka of North Mahaska at 12:13.69.

The 4×100 team of Addison Smith, Taylor Moore, Brin Lauderman, and Paislee Coleman placed fourth in 55.65 behind winner Centerville at 52.35. The 4×200 squad of Mya Glick, Fynlie Brooks, Autumn Coleman, and Maddy Petrehn placed third in 2:02.63 behind winner North Mahaska at 2:00.31. The 4×400 group of Abby Guise, Emerson Porter, Mya Glick, and Carlie Gambell placed fourth in 4:50.24 behind winner Davis County at 4:34.86. The sprint medley team of Breanna Drish, Autumn Coleman, Fynlie Brooks, and Mya Glick placed sixth in 2:10.92 behind winner Centerville at 2:01.39.

Brin Lauderman placed fourth in the high jump clearing 4-08. Mya Glick placed third in the long jump at 14-02.75 and Fynlie Brooks ninth at 12-05.25 behind winner Nataliya Linder of North Mahaska at 16-04.75. Kendra Schultz placed third in the shot put at 33-05. Taylor Moore placed fourth in the discus at 91-00.

Girls Junior Varsity Wins

Zoe Heisdorffer won the 400-meter dash in 1:21.98. The 4×400 relay team of Fynlie Brooks, Callie Deutschle, Breanna Drish, and Zoe Heisdorffer won in 5:20.14. Reece Brisby won the high jump at 4-04 and Autumn Coleman won the long jump at 12-11. Taylor Moore won the shot put at 32-06.50 and Kendra Schultz won the discus at 87-08.

Pekin Boys Results

Pekin had a dominant night in the relay events, winning the 4×100 relay with Aliyas Brock, Alijah Brock, Riley Smith, and Nolan Glick in 43.69, the 4×200 relay with the same quartet in 1:31.00, the 4×400 relay with Mason Dahlstrom, Brody Sobaski, Cael Silvers, and Lane Fariss in 3:44.16, the 4×800 relay in 8:38.87, the sprint medley with Riley Smith, Aliyas Brock, Alijah Brock, and Nolan Glick in 1:35.39, and the distance medley with Riley Smith, Alijah Brock, Aliyas Brock, and Lane Fariss in 3:55.99. Cole Millikin won the 1,600-meter run in 4:57.45 and the 3,200-meter run in 11:00.44. Cody Silvers won the 800-meter run in 2:12.78.

Henry Adam placed seventh in the 100-meter dash in 12.74 and Henry Eubanks ninth in 13.44 behind winner Kayden Rice of Centerville at 11.86. Mason Dahlstrom placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.73 behind winner Rice at 23.54. Cael Silvers placed second in the 400-meter dash in 55.05 and Brody Sobaski fourth in 56.70 behind winner James Drummond of Davis County at 53.84.

Keegan Dickey placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 19.88 and Ethan Porter eighth in 22.41 behind winner Kayden Rice of Centerville at 15.67. Cael Silvers placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.27 and Jaxon Mefford fifth in 1:07.11 behind winner Mark Fraise of Davis County at 55.21. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Keegan Dickey, Ethan Porter, Ryann Hammes, and Jaxon Mefford placed third in 1:20.89 behind winner North Mahaska at 1:06.39.

Garett Greiner placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:43.18 and fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 12:44.27.

Brody Sobaski placed second in the high jump clearing 5-10. Henry Adam placed third in the long jump at 19-02 and Keegan Dickey ninth at 17-00.25 behind winner Kayden Rice of Centerville at 20-11.75. Brantyn Sieren placed second in the shot put at 41-07.50 and Cal Miller fourth at 38-07 behind winner Braxton Bragg of Davis County at 43-04.50. Cowen Weaver placed eighth in the discus at 97-10 and Johnathan Delaney ninth at 92-09 behind winner Kasen Van Ryswyk of North Mahaska at 124-06.

Boys Junior Varsity Wins

Asaa McCabe won the 100-meter dash in 12.28. Landon Fariss won the 3,200-meter run in 13:01.80. Jaxon Mefford won the 110-meter hurdles in 21.24. Pekin won four relay events — the 4×200 with Ryann Hammes, Asaa McCabe, Pierce Coleman, and Hunter Chapman in 1:50.36; the 4×400 with Clayton Harvey, William Daniels, Conor Cloyd, and Cody Silvers in 4:17.99; the sprint medley with Henry Eubanks, William Daniels, Cael Silvers, and Conor Cloyd in 1:52.28; and the distance medley with Pierce Coleman, Colton Harvey, Samuel Loper, and Conor Cloyd in 4:42.97.

Head coach Davis Eidahl was thrilled with the team’s performance across the board on Senior Night. “Great meet — everyone got to run and had fun, which is what you need in track,” Eidahl said. “Chloe set a school record in the 1,500 and qualified for Drake. Anna Hadley qualified in the discus. Our boys sprint teams ran some of the best times in the state, and the boys also qualified in the 4×100 for Drake. We had many personal records tonight.”

Keota Girls Results

Olivia Lyle placed sixth in the 100-meter dash in 13.80 and Zoey Sieren seventh in 13.83 behind winner Kieren Perez of North Mahaska at 13.25. Elyse Lyle placed third in the 200-meter dash in 1:08.14 and Mia Conrad 12th in 1:21.75 behind winner Journey Al-Khanfar of Davis County at 1:03.02. Mia Conrad placed seventh in the 800-meter run in 3:40.90 behind winner Taylor McVeigh of Centerville at 2:40.59.

Kaylee Kindred placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdles in 20.80 behind winner Paislee Coleman of Pekin at 16.61.

The 4×100 team of Kaylee Kindred, Zoey Sieren, Jaylah Redlinger, and Olivia Lyle placed fifth in 55.93 behind winner Centerville at 52.35. The 4×200 team of Karley Greiner, Elyse Lyle, Jaylah Redlinger, and Emily Moeller placed fourth in 2:03.54 behind winner North Mahaska at 2:00.31. The sprint medley team of Kaylee Kindred, Zoey Sieren, Olivia Lyle, and Elyse Lyle placed second in 2:01.41, just behind Centerville’s winning 2:01.39.

Elyse Lyle placed eighth in the long jump at 12-11.25 and Dakota Dodd 10th at 12-00.50 behind winner Nataliya Linder of North Mahaska at 16-04.75. Kennedy Jackson placed ninth in the shot put at 27-09.50 and Karley Greiner 10th at 27-09. Kennedy Jackson placed fifth in the discus at 89-05 and Karley Greiner eighth at 80-01.

Keota Boys Results

Ayden Galindo won the high jump with a clearance of 6-00.

Blake Baker placed eighth in the 100-meter dash in 13.01 and Dacin Redlinger 10th in 13.44 behind winner Kayden Rice of Centerville at 11.86. Luke Moeller placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 25.68 and Baker ninth in 27.28 behind winner Rice at 23.54. Rowen Horning placed third in the 400-meter dash in 56.13 behind winner James Drummond of Davis County at 53.84.

Hunter Grandstaff placed fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:19.68, third in the 1,600-meter run in 5:32.80, and second in the 3,200-meter run in 12:08.07.

The 4×200 team of Blake Baker, Ayden Galindo, Dacin Redlinger, and Max Peterson placed fifth in 1:44.96 behind winner Pekin at 1:31.00. The sprint medley team of Blake Baker, Ayden Galindo, Rowen Horning, and Luke Moeller placed fifth in 1:46.94 behind winner Pekin at 1:35.39.

Ayden Galindo placed second in the long jump at 19-05 and Luke Moeller eighth at 17-00.75 behind winner Kayden Rice of Centerville at 20-11.75.

Boys Junior Varsity Wins

Rowen Horning won the 200-meter dash in 25.57 and Hunter Grandstaff won the long jump at 17-03.25.
