An Ottumwa man was arrested in connection to a 2025 incident involving inappropriate contact with a toddler.
Nicolas Jacobs, 27, was charged with second-degree sex abuse of a child – second or subsequent offense, a Class A felony.
Court records say on September 8, 2025, Jacobs engaged in an illegal sex act with a two-year-old child at a residence on Albia Road in Ottumwa. Police collected a disposed diaper, the child’s current diaper, and a baby wipe as evidence, according to the criminal complaint. Authorities later determined Jacob’s DNA was present on all three items.
A warrant for Jacobs’ arrest was issued on April 16, 2026 and he was taken into custody the following day.
Jacobs is currently in the Wapello County Jail and is being held with no bond.
Jacobs was previously convicted of lascivious act with a child in Des Moines County in 2015, according to the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. He was 16 at the time of the incident and the victim was a seven-year-old girl.
Court documents indicate Jacobs has entered a not guilty plea for the 2025 case.
