LifeServe Blood Center wants to help students and their families save money while saving lives. Students who plan and execute a successful blood drive through LifeServe can earn scholarships and recognition while making a meaningful difference in
their community.
LifeServe will award up to $500 in scholarship funds to students who organize a successful blood drive between Memorial Day and Labor Day. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must recruit donors, act as the chairperson for the blood drive, and register 25 donors ($250 awarded) or 40 donors ($500 awarded).
“Growing up in a family who regularly donated blood provided me with the idea that I wanted to be a blood donor,” said Logan Miller, LifeServe scholarship recipient. “Then when we found out about the opportunity to earn a scholarship by hosting a blood drive, that seemed like a win-win situation. Not only did the scholarships help with tuition costs, but as a nursing student, I think it’s a really important thing to do.”
With schools out and regular routines on hold, blood donations tend to drop during the summer months. But that doesn’t mean there’s less need. Each blood donation has the ability to impact three lives. By hosting a blood drive and recruiting donors, students can maximize their impact and make sure local patients have access to the blood products they need.
“I held a blood drive in my community and encouraged people to donate because it helps save lives,” said Patience Winsor, LifeServe scholarship recipient. “I think this opportunity is amazing and everyone should give it a try. You have the opportunity to save lives and get a boost financially for college.”
