Planting progress made a big jump in Iowa last week.
USDA’s latest crop progress report says corn went from 2 percent to 22 percent planted, matching the five-year average.
North central Iowa farmer Chris Edgington tells Brownfield.
“There was corn and beans in our area, including us, that went in last week. And maybe a little bit got done yesterday before this latest round of rain. But there’s still a lot to go, and right now the weather is not necessarily looking favorable for an extended planting run.”
The St. Ansgar grower says only 5 percent of his corn is planted.
Statewide, soybean planting advanced to 11 percent complete, slightly behind the normal pace of 13 percent.
