Iowa Corn leader pushes for E15, citing savings for consumers at the pump

Steve Kuiper:

The first vice president of the Iowa Corn Growers Association says he remains optimistic that federal E15 legislation can get passed in 2026.

Steve Kuiper says he’s been in contact with Iowa Congressman Randy Feenstra, who’s been leading the Rural Domestic Energy Council in the U.S. House.

“Representative Feenstra has assured us they are working diligently on it,” Kuiper said. “There’s a lot of moving parts to it. They are doing everything they can to get it passed. He assured us that he feels like this thing will get done, but he doesn’t have a specific date when it will get done.”

The council, which was formed after E15 was left out of a government funding bill at the beginning of the year, missed two deadlines set in February to move legislation forward.

Kuiper tells Brownfield allowing permanent, nationwide year-round sales of the fuel would be a win-win for consumers.

“For consumers, E15 is good for the environment and it’s good for their pocketbook.”

He says consumers can currently save up to 30-cents per gallon when filling up with E15, often branded as Unleaded 88.
