A community-wide cruise and drive-by car show is being organized this Friday evening, April 24, 2026, in support of Bernie Parrish, a retired U.S. Army 1st Sergeant who is currently battling cancer.
The event is being coordinated by local car enthusiasts, including members of the Vintage Cruisers Club and Wapello Car Guys, and is open to anyone with a vehicle—cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more are all welcome.
Participants are asked to gather at the Washington Street parking lot in downtown, Ottumwa, at 5:30 p.m. The group will then begin a coordinated cruise around 6:00 p.m., traveling together to Parrish’s residence in the west end near West Main and Etta, where a drive-by show of support will take place.
Organizers are encouraging attendees to bring flags, signs, and anything else that shows appreciation and encouragement for Parrish, who has been a familiar face at local cruise nights, often seen in his former military truck.
The event is intended as a show of respect and community solidarity for a veteran who has served his country and is now facing a difficult health battle.
