Carol Maxine Hammond, 91 formerly of Ottumwa, died at 4:50 a.m. March 31, 2026 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk.
She was born April 27, 1934 in Putnam County, MO to Jesse Pearl and Nellie Mae Morgan Montgomery. She married Robert Lawrence Hammond on December 24, 1953 and he preceded her in death January 7, 2019.
Graduating high school from Unionville, MO, she had attended the Hartford Baptist Church. She and her husband moved to Ottumwa in 1955 where they had owned and operated Hammond Standard and Universal Welding, retiring in 1998.
She had been a member of Blakesburg Quilt Club. She was also a Vice President of the Goldfinch Chapter of American Business Women’s Assoiation of Ottumwa.
Carol was our family historian, maintaining the family genealogy records. She was an avid quilter, who enjoyed quilting time with her sister Geneva and her daughter Kathy. She also enjoyed gardening, camping and square dancing.
Surviving is a son, Ronnie L. (Kim) Hammond of Cumming; a daughter, Kathy S. Duncan (Kerry Chisman) of Cumming; a daughter-in-law, Dianne Hammond of Ottumwa; 7 grandchildren, Jake, Dusty, Jessica, Robby, Ron Jr. Hammond, John and Derek Duncan; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren: sister, Geneva Cornelison.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert W. Hammond; son-in-law, Bradey John Duncan; and twin sisters, Wanda Steele and Wilma Ross .
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Thompson Cemetery west of Hartford, MO.
