Several students from Jefferson County, Van Buren County, and surrounding communities have been recognized with scholarships supporting their pursuit of higher education and future careers.
Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Scholarship
Fairfield’s Brock Atwood has been named a recipient of the Beverly Rubey Scholarship through the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, a $1,000 award reserved for Jefferson County students pursuing degrees in agriculture. Atwood is among 98 high school seniors and college students across Iowa to receive scholarship support through the program this year, which includes both first-time and returning recipients. Awards through the program are renewable for up to four years, meaning students can receive up to $10,000 total. Recipients are evaluated on academic performance, financial need, community involvement, and a demonstrated commitment to rural Iowa, and must be Farm Bureau members to be eligible.
Access Energy Cooperative Scholarships
Twelve area students have been named recipients of the 2026 Access Energy Cooperative scholarship program, each receiving $1,500. The program awards four scholarships in each of its three districts to students whose parents or guardians are members of Access Energy Cooperative, with selection based on academics, community involvement, and a submitted application that includes questions related to the electric industry.
In District 1, Bailey Headley of Birmingham plans to pursue a career in education at Indian Hills Community College. Breanna Walton, also of Birmingham, plans to pursue a career as an Account Specialist. Clae Cass of Fairfield will attend Southeastern Community College to study business. Dain Burkhart of Fairfield will attend the University of Iowa to major in Electrical Engineering.
Other recipients include Addison Clark, Myah Starr, and Rylie Copeman of Mount Pleasant, Morgan Meyer of Wayland, Addison Dravis of Burlington, Kamryn Wolkenhauer and Zoe Long of Danville, and Audrey Sturdivant of Farmington, who will attend Iowa State University to study elementary education with endorsements in mathematics and reading.
Additionally, in memory of a 2026 scholarship winner who passed away, a $500 donation was made to the Emmelia Miller Memorial.
