Judy Ann Archer, 77, of Ottumwa, Iowa passed away on March 28, 2026, at home surrounded by the comfort of the place she loved. She was born on April 17, 1948, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Elmer and Grace Bennett Newland. She held a special place in her family as the only sibling to be born in a hospital – a detail that always made her story unique from the very beginning. Judy graduated from Lancaster High School, Lancaster, Missouri, in 1966. On August 1, 1969, in Downing, Missouri, Judy was united in marriage to the love of her life, John Burton Archer. Together they built a life centered on family and love – they were blessed with three sons. John passed away on June 5, 2019.
Judy dedicated many years of her life to her work as a USDA meat inspector working at the Excel Meat Plant in Ottumwa where she was known for her strong work ethic. After years of service Judy retired and focused on the many hobbies she enjoyed.
Outside of work, Judy found joy in the simple and meaningful moments of life. She loved gardening and canning her produce, baking holiday cookies, and especially knitting. She generously gifted many baby afghans to family and friends – each one a handmade expression of her love. Judy also enjoyed bird watching and spending quiet time watching a good mystery movie. She will be remembered for her steady presence, caring heart, and the love she shared so freely with her family.
She is survived by her children, Bryan Archer and his wife, Mindy, of Fremont, Iowa, Darian Archer and his wife, Brandy, of Hastings, Nebraska, Sam Archer of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren, Taysha Holland, Tyler (Ashlyn) Archer, Austin Archer, Cory (Leaha) Archer, Baylee (Nathan) Wagamon, Taylor Archer, Johnathan Archer; ten great-grandchildren, Senner, Raelyn, Morgan, Kaylee, Ariah, John, Hudson, Sofia, Kohen, Hazel, and another due this month – each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
