In January, Austin Garmon announced his candidacy for Iowa State Senate District 13, running on a commitment to serious preparation, community presence, and conservative leadership rooted in service rather than self-promotion.

Garmon is a lifelong resident of Southeast Iowa, a father, and a small business owner. He is currently serving as part of Senator Cherielynn Westrich’s staff during the 2026 legislative session, where he works daily at the Iowa Capitol reading legislation, attending committee and subcommittee meetings, and learning the legislative process firsthand.

“I’m not approaching this seat casually,” Garmon said. “I respect the Iowa Senate and the responsibility that comes with it. That means doing the work now so I’m ready to represent this district effectively from day one.”

Garmon has earned the endorsement of Senator Westrich, who has been recognized as a party platform champion for her consistent alignment with Republican principles throughout her service.

“My goal is simple,” Garmon said. “To be present. Present at the Capitol, and present in our communities. Senate District 13 deserves a senator who never forgets who they work for.”

Outside the Capitol, Garmon has been deeply involved in local community efforts across the district. He helped organize and support a community garden project, bringing neighbors together around shared responsibility and service. He also assisted with organizing and honoring a memorial event for Charlie Kirk, reflecting his commitment to civic engagement and conservative values at the grassroots level. Garmon has worked closely with grassroots nonprofit organizations and has spent years engaging directly with voters, listening to concerns, and helping individuals navigate real problems.

Garmon’s platform centers on protecting children, defending parental rights, strengthening public safety, supporting law enforcement, protecting life, and preserving the constitutional freedoms of speech, religion, and the Second Amendment.

“Southeast Iowa doesn’t need politics as a hobby or a résumé line,” Garmon said. “It needs leadership that shows up, listens, and takes the responsibility seriously. This isn’t about chasing a title. It’s about earning trust.”

Garmon will represent Wapello, Appanoose, Davis, and Monroe counties if elected. Over the coming months, he plans to continue traveling the district, meeting with voters, attending local events, and maintaining a strong presence throughout the legislative session.

“I was born here, raised here, and I’m raising my daughter here,” Garmon said. “This district isn’t a stepping stone. It’s home.”
