The Ottumwa Police Department recently made an arrest after discovering illegal drugs during a routine stop, highlighting ongoing efforts to address drug-related offenses in the community.
On February 9th, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers took a 29-year-old Ottumwa Kepa Kiro, into custody in the 200 block of W. 2nd Street on separate offenses. According to court documents, during a search incident to arrest, officers discovered a crystalline substance in Kiro’s possession that was consistent with methamphetamine, wrapped in a plastic bag. The substance was tested using a NARTEC kit and confirmed positive for methamphetamine.
Kiro was transported to the Wapello County Jail and later released on a $1,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 20th.
Kiro faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), first offense, a serious misdemeanor.
