Police responded to a report of a physical altercation at a local residence, where a suspect had fled before officers arrived.

On February 7th, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to a report of a physical altercation in the 400 block of N. Cheery Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered that Idryss Williams, 35, of Mount Pleasant, had fled the scene.

The victim reported that an argument with Williams escalated into a physical confrontation. According to court documents, Williams allegedly choked the victim inside the bathroom of the residence. Officers observed injuries on both sides of the victim’s neck consistent with hand placement.

Williams and the victim have been in a relationship for over a year and share three young children. Two of the children were present during the altercation, while the third was reportedly asleep downstairs.

Law enforcement contacted a witness on February 8th, who stated they saw Williams corner the victim in the bathroom. The witness reported hearing the victim make a noise and verbally telling Williams to remove his hands.

Due to Williams fleeing the scene and concerns for the victim’s safety, police requested an arrest warrant. The warrant was served on February 18th, and a no-contact order was issued on February 19th. Williams is currently held in the Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility.

Williams faces charges of domestic abuse assault—impeding the flow of air/blood, an aggravated misdemeanor, as well as two counts of child endangerment, also aggravated misdemeanors. A bond review hearing is scheduled for March 14th.
