McGargill says he has no plans to pull back on his fungicide investments in 2026.
He spoke to Brownfield at the 2026 Iowa Ag Expo in Des Moines, which can be heard below:
A southwest Iowa farmer says input costs and southern rust are some of his biggest concerns heading into the upcoming growing season.
Dave McGargill raises corn and soybeans near Imogene in Fremont County.
“Costs are high and (commodity) prices are low right now. It’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but it’s something you just have to be patient and hopefully things will straighten out here.”
He tells Brownfield last year’s southern rust outbreak was a surprise and there were some lessons learned.
“We did have a lot of southern rust in our area. We fortunately fungicided all of our corn crops, so our yields were good. I know of some neighbors that didn’t and they weren’t quite so fortunate.”
