A Wisconsin Congressman serving on the Rural Domestic Energy Council says nationwide E15 negotiations are very sensitive, but he’s optimistic there will be a deal.
Third District Republican Derrick Van Orden tells Brownfield everyone thought the E15 issues were resolved before but, “I’m not going to say who, but somebody threw a, from industry, not from Congress or from the White House, threw a monkeywrench into the works and I think we’re at a point now where we’re going to be able to move forward.”
Van Orden says the council is meeting some milestones thanks to good leadership. “Stephanie Bise (R-OK) and Randy Feenstra (R-IA) are doing a great job leading this thing, you know. Stephanie represents more from the refinery perspective and Randy, of course, is an old Iowa boy, and those two are really good friends so they have a great working relationship and they’re very experienced legislators and negotiators.”
Van Orden tells Brownfield some industry representatives and some corn growers “shot themselves in the foot” when the original deal fell apart, and the council is “trying to remove the bullets” so they can move a nationwide E15 bill forward.
