Alvin Henry Schmidt, 90, of Ottumwa, died at 3 p.m. February 15, 2026 at The Haven in Ottumwa.
He was born June 30, 1935 in Ottumwa to Henry M. and Thelma Major Schmidt. Al married Helen Louise Eaves on April 22, 1961.
Al was a 1953 graduate of Ottumwa High School and a 1957 graduate of Parsons College. He worked, alongside his dad, for 10 years at Workman Electric and then for 34 years for Indian Hills Community College, retiring in 2001.
Al was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Surviving is his wife, Helen; a sister, Ila (Jim) Foxx of Ottumwa; 3 nieces, Elizabeth Anderson, Susan Foxx, Lori Hoad.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Mary Barbara Schmidt.
His body has been cremated.
Graveside services and inurnment will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 19th, at Ottumwa Cemetery with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society or Indian Hills Community College Foundation.
