Abingdon Residence Total Loss in Thursday Afternoon Fire, Resident Life-Flighted to UI Hospitals

A residential fire in Abingdon on Thursday afternoon, February 26th, resulted in a total loss of the home and critical injuries to the male resident.

The Jefferson County Communications Center received a 911 call at 2:25 p.m. reporting a fire in the 1100 block of Brookville Road in the town of Abingdon. The caller advised that a male subject was still inside the residence.

A deputy arrived on scene at 2:35 p.m. and notified responding emergency personnel that the residence was fully engulfed in flames. The deputy advised that the male subject had made it out of the residence but had sustained injuries as a result of the fire.

The Packwood Fire Department and Fairfield Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the fire. The residence is considered a total loss.

The injured man was transported by Jefferson County Ambulance to Jefferson County Health Center, where he was then life-flighted by MedForce to the University of Iowa Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

No further information is available at this time.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
