Snow during the early part of December didn’t have much of an impact on ag in Iowa.
The USDA says that while most of Iowa saw measurable snowfall last month, except for the southeastern district, precipitation was below normal.
Farmers were able to move grain without many issues and livestock conditions are called good, with no abnormal death loss.
That snow did melt later in the month, allowing cattle to graze corn stalks, and letting farmers apply manure and fertilizer, but soil moisture is a concern ahead of spring planting.
The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
