Caregivers across southeast Iowa will soon have the opportunity to take part in a program designed to support those caring for adults with chronic health conditions. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is offering Powerful Tools for Caregivers, an educational series that begins February 10th.
Nearly 39 percent of adult Americans provide care for an adult with a chronic condition, a role that can be both rewarding and demanding. Caregiving responsibilities often lead to increased stress, declining physical health, mental distress, and lower overall life satisfaction. Finding support and practical resources can be a challenge, which is where this program aims to help.
Powerful Tools for Caregivers is designed for individuals caring for a spouse, parent, or friend with conditions such as dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. The program offers practical tools and strategies focused on self-care, stress management, communication skills, problem-solving, and accessing helpful resources. The goal is to help caregivers care for themselves while continuing to provide quality care for others.
The six-session series will be held on Tuesdays from February 10th through March 17th, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., at Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon. While the program typically costs $40 per person, it is being offered at no cost to participants thanks to funding from ISU Extension and Outreach Region 26 Extension Councils, which include Davis, Jefferson, Van Buren, and Wapello counties.
