Police responded to a reported violation of a no-contact order after a disturbance was caused at a local retail store. The incident involved repeated contact with the protected individual while they were at work, prompting law enforcement intervention.
On December 24 at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department responded to a report of a no-contact order violation at the Dollar Tree.
According to criminal complaints, 51-year-old Peter Serrer of Ottumwa was subject to an active no-contact order involving the victim, which has been in place since December 8. The victim was working at the Dollar Tree at the time of the incident.
Police say Serrer entered the store four separate times throughout the day. During these visits, he allegedly knocked on the store’s windows, yelled at customers about the victim, and shouted derogatory statements toward the victim from across the store, causing a disturbance.
Serrer was arrested and is currently being held at the Wapello County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. A warrant was served on January 29. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for February 12.
Serrer is charged with violation of a no-contact/protective order (contempt), a simple misdemeanor.
