The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation held its annual meeting for 2025, bringing together agricultural leaders from across the state in December in Des Moines. Jefferson County was well represented by Jason Steele and JD Hollingsworth, who attended the County Leadership Conference and participated in the County Farm Bureau Celebration Luncheon, where Steele was recognized for outstanding leadership.

Statewide Recognition

In a historic achievement, all 100 county Farm Bureaus across Iowa received the County Award of Excellence this year. The prestigious recognition evaluates organizations across four key categories: membership, policy, leadership, and community outreach.

Leadership and Inspiration

One of the highlights of the annual meeting was a keynote address from coach Lisa Bluder, the legendary University of Iowa women’s basketball coach. Bluder shared insights into the leadership techniques she employed throughout her coaching career, offering valuable lessons that translate beyond the basketball court.

Community Impact

Jefferson County Farm Bureau has made significant contributions to the local community through various initiatives. The organization hosts events like Barnyard Bash and grocery games during Agriculture Week, which have donated over $1,200 to the Lord’s Cupboard. These efforts demonstrate the Farm Bureau’s commitment to both agricultural advocacy and community service.

Reflections from Jason Steele

Jason Steele, who was honored during the County Farm Bureau Celebration Luncheon, shared his thoughts on the annual meeting and the organization’s mission:

“The farm bureau annual meeting was great to see old friends, meet new ones, and discuss the ongoing agriculture industry. We were able to listen to coach Lisa Bluder and what techniques she used as a coach to become a leader. It was an excellent talk! All 100 county Farm Bureaus received the County Award of Excellence this year. Jefferson County excelled with a great board of directors who are all volunteers. We also enjoy telling our positive agriculture stories to anyone who is interested in listening. Agriculture is the backbone of our nation and we strive to do things better every year.”
