A 19-year-old Batavia man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a traffic stop early Monday morning in Fairfield.
According to court records, Tyler Ellis, 19, of Batavia, was arrested at approximately 12:46 a.m. on Monday, January 12th, after officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration.
During the stop, officers determined that the female driver and Ellis, who was seated in the passenger seat, were both subject to an active no-contact order, with Ellis listed as the restrained party. He was taken into custody for violation of the no-contact order and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
While being processed, officers reportedly discovered contraband concealed on Ellis’ person. Court documents state that Ellis was found to be in possession of multiple controlled substances, including pharmaceutical fentanyl, alprazolam pills, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Authorities also reported finding 25 hydrocodone pills, a digital scale, and several unused small clear plastic baggies. The contraband was allegedly concealed in Ellis’ groin area, leading to an additional charge related to possession of contraband in a correctional institution.
As a result of the investigation, Ellis has been charged with the following offenses:
- Controlled Substance Violation (Class C Felony)
- Possession of a Controlled Substance, Third or Subsequent Offense (two counts, Class D Felony)
- Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Institution (Class D Felony)
- Controlled Substance Violation (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
- Violation of a No-Contact/Protective Order – Contempt (Simple Misdemeanor)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Simple Misdemeanor)
Court records indicate Ellis has two prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance, both dated April 25th, 2025.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for January 22nd. Ellis remains in custody on a $15,000 cash or surety bond.
