A leader with Solutions from the Land says there’s been a push for more renewable energy sources on farms.

Ray Gaesser, who farms in the southwest corner of Iowa, says it’s been prevalent in his state.

“In Iowa, 63% of our electricity is renewable. It’s wind and solar (energy), but mostly wind.”

He tells Brownfield wind energy also assists landowners when it comes to property taxes.

“In our county in Adams County, the wind provides a third of the property tax we collect. It really does make a difference to repair bridges and to keep the roads in better shape.”

Gaesser says clean, renewable energy policy should include a commitment to biofuels across the country.
