An Ottumwa woman was arrested after police say officers found her in a stolen car with drugs and a gun.

42-year-old Terra McPheter was charged with second-degree theft – possession of stolen property (Class D felony), possession of marijuana – third or subsequent offense (Class D felony), and persons ineligible to carry dangerous weapons (serious misdemeanor).

On December 3rd around midnight, court records say officers from the Ottumwa Police Department discovered McPheter inside a car that was reported stolen the previous day. McPheter told police she believed she purchased the car but authorities say she did not buy the vehicle from the actual owner.

While speaking with McPheter, officers saw a marijuana grinder in plain view which, upon further inspection, contained marijuana, according to court documents. Additionally, the criminal complaint alleges McPheter was in possession of a firearm.

McPheter was arrested and transported to Wapello County Jail. She is being held without bond pending a hearing from a magistrate judge.
