The Fairfield girls wrestling team competed at the Fort Madison Invitational on Tuesday, December 2nd, in a tournament that was postponed from Monday. The Trojans finished 11th out of 15 teams that scored with 62 points, while Ottumwa claimed the team title with 172 points.

Ottumwa led the field with 172 points, followed by Burlington (163), Muscatine (153.5), Fort Madison (149), Sigourney (134), Van Buren County (130), Davis County (98), Louisa-Muscatine (86.5), Cardinal (73), Wapello (70.5), and Fairfield (62).
Individual Results
Bekah Zirkle (105 lbs) opened her tournament with a 3-0 victory over Ellie Thompson from Burlington before dropping consecutive 3-0 decisions to Haydn Francis of Ottumwa and Shila Cline of Burlington.
Kensley Fligg (120 lbs) lost in two straight matches.
Aislinn Wise (145 lbs) received a first-round bye before falling in the second round. After another bye in the consolation bracket, Wise bounced back with a dominant 10-1 victory over Davis County’s Ashlyn Olinger. She ultimately finished sixth after a close 13-10 loss in the fifth-place match.
Bailey Belzer (155 lbs) dropped two matches in the tournament.
Samantha Lyons (170 lbs) delivered the Trojans’ best performance of the day, capturing first place. After a first-round bye, Lyons defeated Burlington’s Jax Collett 7-0 in the second round. She then edged Louisa-Muscatine’s Kiersyn Duncombe in a tight contest in the third round before winning the final against Burlington’s Macy Peterson 5-0 to claim the championship.
Kendra Allison (235 lbs) earned a runner-up finish after receiving a first-round bye. She defeated Ottumwa’s Lauren Archer 3-0 in the second round before falling 3-0 to Ottumwa’s Delilah Subsin in the final to take second place.
The Trojans will look to build on the strong individual performances of Lyons and Allison as the season continues.
