William Lee Hoffman Sr., 81, of Ottumwa died at 7:20 a.m. December 3, 2025 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa.
He was born January 31, 1944 in Ottumwa to Floyd John and Arlene Barton Hoffman. He married Linda Irene Roe August 22, 1966.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Bill attended Brown Institute in Minnesota. He was one of the first EMTs certified in Ottumwa. Bill worked 20 years in the meat department at Fareway, 20 years as a meat cutter at Hormel and 25 years at Walmart. He served on the Wapello County Rural Fire Department, retiring as Captain.
Bill was a member and past president of Isaac Walton Leage, an umpire, coach and fan of the National Little League and was a Boy Scout leader while his son was growing up. He loved to fish, be outside and play video poker. He especially loved hanging out with his grandkids and spending time with his dog, Freedom and his granddog, Shadow.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Linda; their son, Bill (Angela) Hoffman Jr. of Ottumwa; 4 grandchildren, Santana, Isabella, Adriana and Zeneryia; sister, Sue (Brian) Carmen of Ottumwa; and sisters-in-law, Sherry (Steve) Lee and Terri Roe both of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Linda Jean Hill and Judy Slechta; and brother-in-law, Jerry Roe.
His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 8th at Reece Funeral Home with Chaplain Doug McAntire officiating. The family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service Monday.
