A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for parts of southeastern and east-central Iowa, including Jasper, Poweshiek, Marion, Mahaska, Monroe, Wapello, Appanoose, and Davis counties. Cities within the advisory area include Ottumwa, Bloomfield, Grinnell, Pella, Knoxville, Newton, Centerville, Albia, and Oskaloosa. The advisory will remain in place until 10 a.m. Monday.
Forecasters warn that visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less in dense fog throughout the region. These conditions could create hazardous travel, especially during the late-night and early-morning hours. Drivers are encouraged to use caution and plan for additional travel time.
Officials advise motorists to slow down, keep headlights on, and allow for extra space between vehicles. Reduced visibility can make it difficult to see roadways and other drivers, so taking extra precautions is recommended until the fog begins to lift Monday morning.
