A 21-year-old Fairfield woman is charged following an alleged altercation Monday evening that reportedly left a juvenile victim with visible injuries.
Whitney Smith of Fairfield has been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury or Mental Illness, a serious misdemeanor, according to court records.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:24 p.m. on Monday, November 10th, when Fairfield Police were dispatched to the 700 block of South 2nd Street for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a juvenile victim and her sister, who both alleged that Smith had been at their residence consuming alcohol before the altercation began.
According to their statements in the criminal complaint, Smith became angry over who the sisters were speaking to on the phone. When the victim asked Smith to leave due to her behavior and intoxication, Smith allegedly grabbed the victim by the hair and struck her multiple times in the face.
The victim’s sister reportedly attempted to pull Smith away, ultimately striking her to stop the alleged assault. Smith then left the residence on foot, leaving behind her purse and cell phone, which officers later recovered outside the home, according to court documents.
Police documented the victim’s injuries, which included significant hair loss, a small laceration on her knuckle, noticeable bruising to her forehead, and red marks on the right side of her face, according to the complaint.
A short time later, Smith contacted 911 to report that her cell phone had been stolen. Officers responded to her residence, where Smith claimed that she had been punched and had run home, denying any assault on the victim, court records state.
Smith was taken into custody and is being held on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. A no-contact order has been requested in the case, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 21st at the Jefferson County Magistrate Court.
