Two drivers collided in a traffic accident Monday at the intersection of Highway 218 and Highway 78 South, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision occurred when Terry Butler, 84, of Wapello, attempted to make a left turn from the right-hand lane while driving southbound on US 218/27. Butler was driving a red pickup truck and trying to turn onto Highway 78 when the accident happened.

According to the sheriff’s office investigation, Butler crossed into the left lane while making his turn, directly into the path of a silver Chevrolet Malibu driven by Brittney Milewski, 29, of Washington. Milewski was also traveling southbound on US 218/27 but was in the inside lane when the collision occurred.

Both drivers were evaluated at the scene by Henry County Emergency Medical Services and were released without requiring hospital transport.

The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles, prompting them to be towed from the intersection.

Butler was cited for Unsafe Turn under Iowa Code Section 321.314, which prohibits drivers from making turns that interfere with other traffic.
