Shirley Ann Kirk-Post, 90, of Ottumwa died at 1:52 p.m. October 12, 2025 at The Kindred House in Ottumwa.
She was born July 11, 1935 in Ottumwa to Lester Sr. and Thelma McSparen Smithart. She married Curtis Kirk and they later divorced. She married Alvin “Ike” Post on August 8, 1992 and he preceded her in death on August 20, 2011.
Shirley was a 1955 graduate of Ottumwa High School. She had worked as a nurse’s aid and retired from Everco.
She had attended First Baptist Church in her early years. Shirley was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #114 Auxiliary since the age of 18 where she traveled and went on marches.
Surviving are her children, Mary Kirk (Jeff Hoffman) and Patrick (Brenda) Kirk both of Ottumwa; 4 grandchildren, Eric Kirk, Amber Kirk, Matthew (Hallie) Polson and Robert McPheter; 7 great grandchildren, Spencer Hemm, Caylee Kirk, Colt Polson, Paisley Polson, Kaitlyn Sprague, Ricky McPheter and Taydem McPheter; 6 great-great grandchildren, Zoe Rysdam, Jake Rysdam, Oliver Rysdam, Noah Rysdam, Riley Rysdam and Drazen Roberts; and her dog, Elvis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Frank Kirk; granddaughter, Latosha Kirk; grandson, Max Rysdam; great grandson, Colby Rysdam; a sister, Dorothea Knight; 2 brothers, Lester Smithhart Jr. and an infant brother.
Visitation will be open after 10 a.m. Wednesday October 15th at Reece Funeral Home with family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday October 16th at Reece Funeral Home with Mary Allen officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
