A Wapello County man received his sentence on Tuesday after pleading guilty in a 20 year old sexual assault case.
Jeffary Dowding, 48, was arrested in February after investigators reopened a 2005 case of sexual abuse that happened in Eldon. The Wapello County Sheriff’s Office says a victim, with the support of a victim advocate, approached law enforcement with information that led to Dowding’s arrest.
Dowding was charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony. On Tuesday, Dowding pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Dowding was sentenced to probation with the Eighth Judicial Department of Corrections and will be required to register as a sex offender, according to court records.
