According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, a juvenile bicyclist was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle on Pleasant Plain Road.
At approximately 4:51 p.m. on September 24th, the Jefferson County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a collision in the 1900 block of Pleasant Plain Road, near the bike trail crossing. Emergency personnel arrived within minutes.
Authorities say a northbound pickup truck struck the bicyclist, who failed to stop before entering the roadway. The identities of both the bicyclist and the driver are not being released at this time.
The juvenile was initially taken to Jefferson County Health Center before being airlifted by MedForce to the University of Iowa Hospital with serious injuries.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Fairfield Police Department, Fairfield Fire and Rescue, and Jefferson County Ambulance. Officials noted that no further information will be released at this time.
