As of 12:01 a.m., the federal government officially shut down after Congress failed to reach an agreement on a short-term funding bill. The result? Some agencies are closed, services are delayed, and families across Iowa are left wondering what comes next.
Back up: Just two weeks ago, I voted for a commonsense plan to keep the government open, ensure our troops are paid, and keep critical services running. Unfortunately, all but three Senate Democrats voted against it – triggering this shutdown.
