The Fairfield girls tennis team continued their flawless season with a commanding 9-0 shutout victory over Keokuk on Thursday, August 29, 2025, improving to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
The evening’s most significant match came at 1st singles, where Fairfield’s Poojita Mukadam faced off against Keokuk’s Nevaeh Logan in what could prove to be a crucial district seeding battle. Mukadam’s decisive 8-1 victory likely positions her as the top seed heading into districts, a significant advantage for the Trojans’ postseason aspirations.
Fairfield dominated across the singles lineup for positions 2-6, with 4 players recording perfect 8-0 victories. Ria Ross, Sriya Yammanur, Faeven Gebremariam, and Soumya Mallick all blanked their opponents, while Natalie Steele contributed an 8-2 win over Baylee Picton before departing for volleyball duties.
Steele’s dual-sport commitment meant she only competed in singles, but it’s safe to say she did a lot more serving later in the evening.
The Trojans carried their momentum into doubles play, sweeping all three matches. The top doubles team of Ross and Yammanur defeated Logan and Lizzy Mason 8-4 in the most competitive doubles match of the evening. Mukadam paired with Gebremariam for a flawless 8-0 victory over Picton and Paityn James, while Mallick teamed with Tara Carter to defeat Alexa Sanchez and Divya Kirchner 8-1.
With this dominant performance, Fairfield has established themselves as a formidable force in conference play and beyond. The perfect season continues as the Trojans build momentum heading toward the district tournament, where Mukadam’s likely top seeding could prove pivotal later in the season.
