The City of Ottumwa would like to remind residents and visitors to follow all parking regulations outlined in Chapter 23, Article VII of the City Code.
Several sections of the code are frequently violated, particularly those relating to intersections and
driveways.
Under Section 23-201, it is unlawful to park within 35 feet of an intersection or between the street and the lot line. This area is commonly referred to as the right of way. These rules are designed to maintain visibility and safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
Additionally, Section 23-202 prohibits parking directly opposite or within five feet in either direction of a driveway on streets that are less than 30 feet wide. This ensures adequate access for property owners and emergency vehicles.
The City asks all drivers to be mindful of these parking restrictions. Enforcement of these ordinances helps improve traffic flow, prevent damage to property, and enhances safety throughout the community.
