A Batavia man has been charged following a domestic assault reported by his wife on Saturday, October 4th.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 11:58 a.m. after a woman called to report that she had been assaulted by her husband at their residence in Batavia. Deputies were advised that she was bleeding but declined immediate medical attention.
Deputies met the victim at a nearby convenience store, where she had gone to wait for law enforcement. Upon arrival, the deputy observed dried blood on the woman’s lips, nose, and shirt, consistent with her report.
The woman told deputies she had been sleeping when her husband, identified as Ted Covert III of Batavia, woke her up asking for her car keys. When she refused, she alleged that Covert pulled her hair, bit her on the top of the head, and punched her in the mouth. She provided a written statement detailing the incident.
Following the investigation, Covert was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault – 1st Offense, a Simple Misdemeanor.
Court records confirm that a $300 cash bond was posted, paid by his wife, and that a no-contact order has been issued in the case.
Covert is scheduled to appear in Jefferson County Court on November 6th.
