Another strong surge of chilly air will arrive across the upper Midwest at mid-week, will cool conditions most heavily focused on the Corn Belt and Northeast.

By Thursday morning, widespread frost should occur in the upper Great Lakes region and neighboring areas, with additional frost possible late in the week from the northern Plains into the Northeast, as additional cool air advances into the central and eastern U.S.  In contrast, significantly above-normal temperatures will cover the Deep South and much of the West, with mid- to late-week temperatures reaching 100°F across parts of Texas and the interior Northwest.

Meanwhile, significant rainfall will be scarce during the next 5 days, with meaningful precipitation mostly limited to southern Florida and the Southwest.  In the latter region, locally heavy, monsoon-related showers could extend into the Great Basin, central and southern Rockies, and Intermountain West.

Additionally, a cold front crossing the Midwest and Northeast will spark briefly heavy showers, starting later Tuesday across the upper Great Lakes region.
