Ottumwa Regional Health Center (ORHC) is excited to announce the appointment of David Suarez to its board of trustees, a move that underscores the organization’s commitment to inclusivity and community engagement.

Suarez, a respected bilingual community development professional, has dedicated his career to empowering immigrant and underserved populations across Iowa. As the bilingual community development manager at Community 1st Credit Union, he has been instrumental in forging strategic partnerships with over 20 organizations, successfully securing more than $3 million in federal grants aimed at enhancing financial education and inclusion. His efforts have positively impacted countless newcomer families, earning him the title of “Man of the Year” from the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) in 2018.

Hailing from Ecuador, Suarez brings a rich background in journalism and Spanish-language media, coupled with a solid foundation in grassroots leadership. He also serves on the board of Iowa WINs (Welcoming Immigrants Neighbors), where he continues to advocate for Hispanic families throughout the region.

“We are thrilled to welcome David to the ORHC Board,” said K.C. DeBoer, interim CEO of Ottumwa Regional Health Center. “His deep connections within the community and his passion for inclusion and equity will bring valuable perspectives to our ongoing efforts to serve all individuals and families in southeast Iowa.”

Suarez’s appointment aligns perfectly with ORHC’s mission to strengthen relationships across all communities it serves, as they strive to promote healthier, more equitable living conditions for everyone in the area.
