A longtime Ottumwa business is getting statewide recognition.
U.S. Senator Joni Ernst has named Edd the Florist as her Small Business of the Week for Wapello County. Ernst, who chairs the Senate Small Business Committee, is highlighting one small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties during the 119th Congress.
Edd the Florist has been a staple in Ottumwa since 1956, when it was purchased by Margaret and Karl Wilz after emigrating from Germany. Nearly 70 years later, their son Hans Wilz continues to grow the family business, offering floral arrangements, gifts, and gourmet goods.
Senator Ernst praised the shop’s deep community roots and commitment to quality, calling it a “blooming success.”
The recognition highlights not just the shop’s longevity, but also its legacy of family entrepreneurship in Iowa.
