A rollover accident in southeast Iowa claimed the life of a Burlington woman on Friday night.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, shortly after 11:00 PM on July 18th, a 2008 Kia Sorento driven by 20-year-old Kelsey Lou Orth was traveling southbound on Highway 99 in Des Moines County at a high rate of speed. The accident report states the driver lost control of the vehicle, entered a ditch on the west side of the highway, and struck a culvert. The SUV went airborne and rolled in the air multiple times before landing on its roof.

Orth, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities. A passenger, 18-year-old Ava McCulloch of West Burlington was injured in the wreck and was transported to a local hospital. Her condition is unknown. The accident report says McCulloch wore a seatbelt.

The Iowa State Patrol says the accident remains under investigation.
