Jeanine Ann Zimmerman, 68, of Ottumwa died at 4:41 p.m. July 8, 2025 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
She was born May 15, 1957 in Ottumwa to Robert and Joann Elizabeth Bales Boyd. Jean married Steven Lee Zimmerman July 3, 1993.
A 1975 graduate of Ottumwa High School she earned her AA from William Penn University. Jean operated an in-home daycare and worked at Evans Middle School for over 20 years retiring in 2016.
She enjoyed baking, cooking, singing and at one time was in a quartet called Faith Connected. Jean was a caregiver for her parents and loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband, Steve; children, Sara (Justin) Anderson of Wichita, KS and Rachael Pettit of Des Moines; 5 grandchildren, Reece Knepper, Alec Knepper, Addy Pettit, Owen Anderson and Ellis Pettit; father, Bob Boyd of Ottumwa; father-in-law, Richard Zimmerman of Anamosa; siblings, Sharon Van Englenhoven of Ottumwa, Jim (Trudy) Boyd of Ankeny and Nancy (Dennis) Hinson of Clinton; brothers-in-law, Rick (Carol) Zimmerman of Burlington and Scott (Sally) Zimmerman of Urbana; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and mother-in-law, Doris Zimmerman.
Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Friday July 11th at Reece Funeral Home with family present to greet friends from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
A service to celebrate her life will be 10 a.m. Saturday July 12th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Hendred officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Market Street Landing Inclusive Play Space (MSLIPS).
